HOW IT ALL STARTED

The Beginning

In 2011, Christine embarked on a transformative journey that would shape her life and career. Fresh out of college and with her first dog, Izzy, by her side, she discovered
her true passion for therapy work and dog training. As a puppy, Izzy became a beacon of joy during Christine’s volunteer stints at a local nursing home.

Christine vividly remembers the moments when the disengaged residents would soften and light up once they saw Izzy. Some families even asked to borrow Izzy as emotional support when their family member was passing. Each interaction filled Christine with a sense of purpose. It was in those moments that she realized her true calling was not in her Marine Biology and Safety degree, but in the world of dogs.

Determined to transform her passion into a profession, Christine apprenticed with the renowned dog trainer, Liz Maslow. This invaluable experience allowed her to refine her skills and deepen her understanding of canine behavior. While initially focused on puppy training, Christine quickly identified a pressing need for high-quality pet care services that have a true understanding of canine behavior in the King of Prussia, PA area. Fueled by her commitment to the well-being of dogs, she established a facility dedicated to providing exceptional lodging, engaging playtime, comprehensive training, and top-notch grooming.

Today, Christine’s passion and vision continue to flourish, cultivating a nurturing environment where dogs thrive, and families have peace of mind knowing their beloved companions are in caring hands.

In addition to her commitment to pet care, Christine is reigniting her passion for therapy work by launching a nonprofit organization called Bark Uplift. This initiative aims to provide facilities with full-time service dogs, offering invaluable support and companionship to individuals in need. Through Bark Uplift, Christine seeks to enhance the lives of both people and dogs by creating meaningful connections that uplift and inspire one wag at a time!

Dogs deserve the best

Our Mission

Dog daycare and boarding facilities (often known as ‘kennels’) are traditionally known to be a stressful environment for dogs. Some dogs even find them frightening.

Certified dog trainer, Christine, saw the need to create a daycare and lodging environment for dogs that is not only stress-free, but promotes happiness and fun in a clean and safe environment.

Christine’s extensive background in dog training and behavior sets BARK U apart. As a CPDT-KA certified trainer and a Fear Free Certified professional, she has pursued countless courses and seminars led by renowned, science-based trainers such as Susan Friedman and Susan Clothier. Additionally, Christine apprenticed for several years with Liz Maslow, gaining invaluable hands-on experience in dog training and has taught at local dog training facilities in the greater Philadelphia region. This comprehensive education has equipped her with a deep understanding of canine behavior and a unique perspective on how to create a stress-free, enjoyable environment for dogs. Every aspect of BARK U has been meticulously designed with the needs of dogs in mind. From cooperative care techniques that encourage relaxation to thoughtfully curated spaces that foster comfort and joy, we are not an average kennel or daycare facility; we are a dedicated haven focused entirely on the well-being of dogs.

Designed with the mental wellness and happiness of dogs at the forefront, BARK U is a place where dogs thrive – whether visiting for daily daycare or an extended overnight stay.

Pet parents have peace of mind, too. We have removed the uncertainty about ‘what my dog is doing’. Our report cards provide detailed information on food intake, doggy friendships and observed likes and dislikes. Photos showcase their fun and relaxing times. And our staff – all of whom have various certifications in pet care and safety – who know the dogs personally, are easily accessible for pet parents and families, should there be any questions or updates needed.
