Job Description
As a Bather & Grooming Apprentice at BARK U, you will play a crucial role in the pet grooming process by providing essential bathing and grooming preparatory services for dogs. You will work closely with groomers to ensure that pets receive proper hygiene and care according to the grooming standards and client expectations. This role requires a love for dogs, patience, and the ability to handle various breeds and temperaments.
In addition to dog bathing, this role allows for individuals to partake in BARK U’s Grooming Apprenticeship program. As a Grooming Apprentice, you will play a pivotal role in fostering a low-stress environment for all dogs that come in for service. You will learn to consult with clients to ensure the groom and styling meets their expectations and learn how to foster positive relationships in building your client portfolio. With hands-on experience in the BARK U grooming department, you will develop the professional skills necessary for success as a dog groomer – directly from our certified professionals.
This structure allows for direct 1:1 grooming interactions of dogs while cultivating proper, safe grooming techniques from onsite, certified professionals – all part of our structured grooming apprentice program.
Responsibilities:
- Safely bathe dogs of various sizes and breeds using appropriate shampoos and conditioners.
- Ensure thorough rinsing to remove all traces of shampoo and conditioner; Brush out fur to remove loose hair and prevent matting. Dremel nails, apply facial scrub, brush teeth and clean ears as needed.
- Use techniques that minimize stress and discomfort of the dogs.
- Inspect for any skin issues or abnormalities while grooming.
- Follow proper sanitization procedures to ensure a clean and safe environment for pets; Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of bathing area.
- Support grooming team as needed in ensuring timely completion of appointments and maintaining workflow.
- Shadow grooming staff during client interactions to understand clients needs and expectations, and to observe skills in relationship building
- Support grooming staff while learning professional techniques and best practices for: hair trimming, paw pad area trims, coat maintenance, general hygiene, detangling removing matted fur, and other services as requested by client.
Requirements:
- Previous experience working with dogs a must; one year of dog bathing experience preferred.
- Working towards/desire to obtain Grooming certification (if not certified).
- Ability to handle dogs of all sizes and temperaments confidently and safely.
- Team player with strong communication skills and a customer service-oriented approach.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform cleaning tasks.
- Ability to remain calm and react quickly in stressful situations.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to effectively communicate with clients and colleagues.
- Patience, compassion, and a genuine love for dogs and their well-being.
